In a recent DailyFinance article, I raised the question of whether John Hancock, the largest full-service provider to 401(k) plans in this country — 42,000 plans with over 1.7 million participants — is a real fiduciary. I noted that John Hancock certainly had all the characteristics of a fiduciary. Google’s own phone: Rumors firm up about Android-powered Nexus One

googles-own-phone-rumors-firm-up-about-android-powered-nexus-oneThere have been rumors for months that Google (GOOG) would launch its own wireless handset. PC Magazine even went so far as to report that Google employees have been issued the phone.

Now there is a sort of confirmation from The Wall Street Journal that the handset, to be called the Nexus One, will go into production next year, though the newspaper can only say that this is “according to people familiar with the matter.” The handset allegedly will be built by Chinese cell phone manufacturing giant HTC Corp and will run Google’s own wireless operating system, Android.

After weeks of build-up, Verizon Communications’s (VZ) Verizon Wireless unleashed its new Google (GOOG)-powered Droid smartphone on Friday, and New York City retailers were selling out of the device — billed as the first legitimate challenger to Apple’s (AAPL) iPhone’s first legitimate challenger — on the first day.

“We’re gonna need more phones,” Amanda Leavelle, a Verizon Wireless store manager in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood, said around 2 p.m. “I just checked, and our inventory is running low, so I’ve got to call for some more.”
