Video: Europeans find humor in loathable roadside flashers
Filed under: Etc., Europe, Videos, Humor
Ever wonder what would happen if Robbie the Robot had an addled tryst with a photo-radar box? Neither have we. Some possibly addled Europeans, though, have inadvertently created that union’s possible love child with their own nocturnal hijinks.
Mocking the roadside photo radar ‘Gatso’ units, one giggle-prone youth donned a box and fired a strobe at passing automobiles in a taunting fashion. At least they didn’t do their impression of a high-pressure car wash, right? Make the jump to see the video.

Video: PSA - Do not try to drive your C4 Corvette like a Duke Boy
Filed under: Etc., Videos, Humor
If there are two indisputable truths in life, they are that a man is not a camel and a Corvette is not a boat. The gentleman above needs to retrieve the C4 Corvette in the shed behind him. The problem is the pool of water between the Corvette and solid ground. His solution is as comical as it is regrettable… and expensive. It did, however, teach us a new way to use the word “yahoo” as a verb. Follow the jump for the fun.

Video: Honda execs talk up historical link between CR-Z and CRX
Filed under: Hybrid, Videos, Hatchback, Honda
Looking at the 2011 CR-Z, it’s hard not to think back to the original Honda CRX. The two-seat configuration, double-paneled glass hatch and sport compact styling are what made the CRX a huge hit for Honda buyers some two decades ago, and the automaker is hoping to recapture that magic with the CR-Z, though with a slightly different approach.
The big difference with the CR-Z is that it uses a hybrid powertrain rather than a standard petrol mill. And while the automaker’s decision to give the CR-Z a gas/electric powertrain isn’t necessarily sitting well with everyone, Honda reassures us that the fundamental values that made the CRX a success are very much present in the CR-Z. John Mendel, executive vice president of auto sales, says, “We hope consumers look at this car and see all the passion around the original CRX, but [we're] taking that passion and moving it into a whole new generation.” See what other Honda execs and enthusiasts have to say about the CR-Z by watching the video after the jump.

Video: Scott Wade’s dirty car art and how it’s done
If you were to research all of the posts ever published on Autoblog, you’d find that one of the most popular was one published back in June 2006 about artist Scott Wade from San Marcos, Texas. Wade is a painter who, unlike his peers, uses dirty cars as his canvas. He turns dusty rear windows into masterpieces that only last as long as a stiff breeze or unannounced rain shower allows.
At the time, we didn’t know much about how Wade created his art other than that typical artists’ tools like paint brushes were used. We recently found this video on YouTube created in January of this year, that details exactly how these amazing images are created.
Surprisingly, Wade first has to clean the rear window of the car he’s working on. He then applies almond oil to the glass so the special dust he uses, the same kind of fake dust used in the movies, will stick better. The dust is applied using a hair dryer to blow it onto the glass, and once an even and opaque coating has been achieved, he goes to work with his paint brushes. A complete piece of dirty rear glass art takes about 2-4 hours to complete, after which it’s either washed off or left to naturally decay on its own, which will happen fast.
Take a look at the video after the jump and revisit our gallery of past pieces by Scott Wade in the gallery below.

Video: Standing water + train = car wash!
Filed under: Etc., Videos, Humor, South America
What happens when you combine a flooded underpass, a traffic-jammed overpass, and a passenger train in Buenos Aires, Argentina? You get a real-life Six Flags water attraction. Those people standing near the train tracks? They need towels. Hope everyone up on the road above had their windows closed. Follow the jump to watch.

Video: How did that Pontiac Grand Prix end up in a tree?

Click above to watch the video after the jump
We see a lot of weird, sometimes funny stuff on our nation’s streets and highways, but we usually don’t feel compared to share any of it with you. Until today. Wednesday, March 3 was a cool, dry day in southeast Michigan, so we weren’t expecting any significant traffic backups on our way home. But sometimes that’s precisely when the most interesting situations unfold.
Hit the jump to see the end-game of what had to be a really odd incident. It involves a 15-foot hill, a Herculean pine tree and a very determined “Wide Track” Pontiac Grand Prix going all “Dukes of Hazard” on unsuspecting passers-by. We have no idea how this happened and we’re hoping nobody was injured, but at the same time we’re showing this video to any teenagers who think texting and driving is a good idea. Please forgive us for the iPhone-quality video and the AM soundtrack, but we feel this is definitely worth your time.

Video: Hot Wheels lets you choose your own adventure
Filed under: Etc., Videos, Toys/Games
Remember those Choose Your Own Adventure Books from when you were a kid? Awesome, right? Hot Wheels has applied that approach to a web video promoting its new series of Custom Motors vehicles. Basically, the Custom Motors rides all feature interchangeable parts, so you your kids can put together some fun, outlandish stuff. The more cars you buy, the more parts you have to work with. The truck models include pull-back motors, too. We saw these in person a couple of weeks ago at Toy Fair (where they had a Custom Motors version of Batman’s Tumbler displayed, in addition to the regular cars and trucks) and can report that they’re definitely cool toys.
Anyway, back to the Custom Motors Cup video on YouTube: When you start with the first one, you choose a vehicle and are then prompted to modify it (thus showing off the customizable nature of the toys) before sending your selected car or truck into a series of nifty stop-motion-animated races. How well you fare depends on your mod choices, each of which sends you down a different video “branch.” Fire up your own racer after the jump, and check out the Custom Motors toys in greater detail in the photo gallery below.

Video: Corvette Racing behind-the-scenes trailer
Filed under: Motorsports, Videos, Chevrolet, Racing
Over the course of this coming season, Corvette Racing will be posting a 12-part video series on the Corvette Facebook page that tracks the development of the C6.R and its progress on the track. In the run-up to the first race of the year at Sebring in a couple of weeks, Chevrolet has released a trailer as a bit of an introduction.
2010 will be the first full season of competition for the new second-generation C6.R as the American Le Mans Series moves ahead with a single unified GT class. The biggest change this year is an all-new 5.5-liter V8 based on the production LS7 aluminum block. Check out the trailer after the jump.

Leave the traffic on the ground with the Martin Jetpack [w/video]
High Occupancy Vehicle lanes (aka HOV lanes) may ease traffic congestion a wee bit as commuters choose to cram a few extra souls into their cars and trucks for the morning ride to work, but we think we have an even better idea: personal jetpacks. And we’re not alone.
The Martin Aircraft Company has created its own jetpack for public use, and the units are apparently for sale to anyone who can pass the company’s own internal training sessions. That’s right, this sucker is classified as an Ultralight and therefore requires no FAA pilot’s license. What’s more, Martin says the Jetpack costs the same as a high-end car or motorcycle. Sign us up!
For what it’s worth, the Martin Jetpack is a jet in name only - much the same way that a jetski isn’t really powered by a jet engine, the Martin apparatus actually uses a 2.0-liter V-four two-stroke engine that drives twin carbon/kevlar rotors. With 600-pounds of thrust, Martin claims its Jetpack can accommodate pilots up to 280 pounds.
The five gallons of fuel carried onboard are enough to get you 31.5 miles in any single direction… as the crow flies, as they say. Plus, just imagine how lovely everything will look at the Jetpack’s 8,000-foot ceiling. So, maybe it’s not an automobile, but it’s just too darn cool to ignore. Now, when can we get one added to the Autoblog Garage? Check out the video past the break for more.
