News & Rants: MotherProof.com Reviews the 2010 Acura TL

The 2010 Acura TL is a sporty sedan that begrudgingly accommodates a family, says MotherProof.com reviewer Lori Hindman. From its lack of storage space to the second row’s middle seat with an old-school hump, this car makes you work to fit your family in it, Lori says. The TL has its positives, including its V-6 engine and Super Handling All-Wheel Drive. Was the driving experience exciting enough to win Lori over? Find out in her full review.

Acura drops more details and pics aplenty of the new ZDX

A month after officially announcing the production version of the new ZDX four door coupe-crossover-thingy, Acura has just released over 100 new photos and full specifications. Like the TL sedan, the ZDX is largely a North American product, as it was designed in California and it is expected to be built at the automaker’s Alliston, Ontario plant.

We already knew the ZDX was getting Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system and the company’s 300 horsepower, 3.7-liter V6. Now we also know that it gets an Integrated Dynamics System to manage the electrically assisted power steering and adaptive dampers.

The ZDX has what figures to be an ample 26.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the back seat. Less accommodating is the passenger space in the second row, where headroom drops to 35.3 inches and legroom goes to 31.3 inches from the TL’s 36.2 inches. Apparently Acura achieved the cargo space by moving the rear seat forward to give head clearance from that sloping roofline. That’s the price you pay for avoiding the humpback look of the Porsche Panamera.

The ZDX goes on sale this winter, but pricing has not yet been announced. Check out the mega high-res gallery below and the official press release after the jump.

LEAKED: Is this the 2010 Acura RDX?

The first shots of what is allegedly Acura’s pending 2010 RDX have hit the web, and unsurprisingly, the small performance crossover appears to have received the Japanese automaker’s controversial corporate shield-shaped grille. Other changes to the restyled nose include dramatically reshaped fog lights, restyled bumper air inlets with matte black surround, and so on.

Out back, from what we can see from the limited photographs shown here, hexagonal exhaust outlets have taken up residence (the old pipes were round), and there appears to be an aggressive new rear bumper fascia with a more stylized surround to the exhausts and a mesh insert.

In addition to the tweaked front end, website SatoAuto reports that the upcoming RDX will also mark the availability of a new two-wheel drive version (front-drive, presumably) to give buyers a less costly, more fuel-efficient alternative to the current Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) model. The website says the new package features revised gearing and is expected to weigh about 200 pounds less than the grips-at-all-paws version - good news considering that package only manages 17 miles-per-gallon city and 22 on the highway in the 2009 model.

Inside, new available features on the sporty crossover include USB iPod integration, Bluetooth audio, a revised backup camera with guide lines, ambient lighting, and so on. For buyers who don’t opt for the navigation system, there’s apparently a new stand-alone option for a reverse camera that displays what’s behind the vehicle through the rearview mirror. Finally, those who do plump for the navigation system will get AcuraLink Real-Time weather, dynamic traffic routing, and an enhanced XM satellite radio.

The rest of the 2010 RDX’s drivetrain figures to be unchanged, SatoAuto says, so count on the 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder returning with 240 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque as before. Check out the not-so-high-res gallery and then click on the link.

Spy Shots: Mercedes-Benz SLC AMG Roadster?

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren spun off more variants than you could shake a carbon-ceramic stick at, and and although its successor hasn’t even reached the market, spy shots are already suggesting that the upcoming SLS could follow down the same path.

What we have here are the first shots of what is being billed once again as the Mercedes-Benz SLC. The name was previously entertained as the tentative nameplate for Merc’s upcoming gullwing supercar until it was replaced by the SLS nameplate. But if these shots from Auto Express are any indication, a roadster version is likely in the works as well.

Rather than a folding hard-top like the SL, the droptop SLS looks like it will follow the path of the SLR McLaren (not to mention the original 300SL) with a canvas roof, and presumably it will offer full automatic operation and a glass rear window. Aside from the roof, the mechanics are anticipated to carry over unchanged from the specs that just hit the web earlier today, while minimal weight gain should mean that performance will closely mirror that of its fixed-roof counterpart.
