Nonfarm Payrolls Fell 125,000 in June on Census Worker Lay-Offs

Total nonfarm payroll employment fell by 125,000 in June as the government laid off 225,000 temporary census workers. That was roughly in line with expectations of a 130,000-job drop. Private sector jobs rose by 83,000, below estimates of 110,000.

European Stocks Gain After ECB Results Sooth Funding Concerns

European stocks gained Wednesday after the results of a European Central Bank lending operation eased concerns about funding within the euro zone.

The FTSEurofirst 300 index of shares gained 0.3% to 999.04 points at 11:23 GMT, according to Reuters. The index declined 3 percent Tuesday. The Euro STOXX 50 added 1.1 % to 2,585.32 today.

Monsanto (MON), the world’s biggest seed company, reported third-quarter profit of 81 cents a share on an ongoing basis, 2 cents above analysts estimates of 79 cents, according to Bloomberg. Net income in the third quarter was $384 million, nearly half of last year’s quarter net income of $694 million.
